Hello beer in corner stores; bye discovery math: Throne speech

Doug Ford has decided his first order of business will be to get rid of the carbon tax

Removing Schmidt had been one of Ford's key campaign promises during this year's Ontario election.

"You should not be forced to pay more and work harder to make life easier for your government". The speech is written by the premier's office but delivered to formally open every new legislative session. Cap and trade funded a long list of programs which included things like cycling infrastructure, school repairs, and the incentives to boost the sale of electric and hydrogen vehicles.

At the cabinet's swearing-in ceremony last month, Ford and Finance Minister Vic Fedeli both promised a line-by-line audit of the previous government's spending. This was restated in the throne speech, along with the Conservatives' aim to balance the budget without creating new taxes for the public, and at a "responsible, modest and pragmatic" time.

"We can not afford to dither or delay". We face mounting challenges at home and overseas. Mr. Ford's cabinet was sworn in less than two weeks ago, but the Premier has convened a rare summer sitting of the legislature to deal with time-sensitive issues, including passing a law to end the strike at York University.

In the Throne Speech, the Conservatives said they are going to scrap the recently introduced sex-ed curriculum and go back to the previous one, which was introduced in 1998.

It further said the government will provide stable health-care funding, including a $3.8 billion investment in mental health, addictions and supportive housing. They will also increase "supports" for families with autistic children, although few details were provided.

The cap-and-trade program that funded EHVIP was nixed July 3, nearly as soon as premier Doug Ford took office, and while it wasn't clear then when the incentives would go away, says Automotive News Canada, a post on the EHVIP website July 11 explained the timeline of its cancellation. We are striking the cap-and-trade carbon tax from the books. It will protect jobs by continuing to work with the federal government to stand up to tariffs and ensure Ontario's best interests are reflected in the NAFTA negotiations.

The speech pledged to restore Ontario to "once again be the engine of Canada's economy".
