Nadal braced for 'complex' Djokovic in 52nd meeting

"I don't know if I'm better or not, a better player than few years ago", said Del Potro, after returning to the last eight at Wimbledon for the first time since 2013.

2009 U.S. Open champion Del Potro defeated Gilles Simon 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (5) in a match that was carried over to Tuesday to complete the men's quarterfinal lineup at the All England Club.

But while Nadal and three-time champion Djokovic were expected to win, and Isner seeded to do so over Raonic, Anderson had never even extracted a set from Federer in four previous meetings.

The Serbian is playing his best tennis for two years as he appears to have finally put injuries and poor form behind him. I just tried to fight for every point.

Incidently, the Nadal versus Del Potro match lasted exactly the same length as Rafa's win against Roger Federer in the 2008 final.

Germany's Julia Goerges apologised after beating close friend Kiki Bertens to progress to the first semi-final of her career at Wimbledon.

"Very happy, a very important achievement for me to be back in the semi-finals of Wimbledon".

"I think she said, "I'm sorry", Bertens said.

After two years of physical and mental struggles, Djokovic appears fit and confident and ready to try to add to his tally of 12 grand slam titles.

Del Potro finished with 77 winners to Nadal's 67 but could not convert any of his five break points in the fifth set. In some ways he deserves to win as well.

"I play Los Cabos in Mexico - the beach", he smiled.

Second, his opponent will be two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal.

Victory secured, Nadal climbed over the net and ran over to the baseline to help the distraught Del Potro back to his feet.

The Majorcan, who is the world number one but seeded second at Wimbledon, looked refreshed as he breezed through his opening four matches without dropping a set.

Opportunity knocks for both men here with a chance at a first Wimbledon final.

A courageous effort from Isner but it is Anderson who will reach the final.

But Nadal was first to break in the deciding set and he built a 5-3 advantage with a looped forehand victor before confirming his final four place with a volley after four hours and 48 minutes.

Anderson is the first South African to make the last-four since Kevin Curren in 1983.

Asked if Djokovic can beat the Spaniard, Nishikori said: 'Yeah, for me he was playing very deep. "That's all I got for you right now".

"I just kept on telling myself I have to continue believing".
