Solar eclipse scheduled on Friday the 13th, won't be visible in India

The outermost areas where the eclipse will be visible to a population of people is in Adelaide, a costal town in the southern part of Australia, and Invercargill, on the tip of New Zealand.

The infamously unlucky day looks to arrive in full force tomorrow because the eclipse will be barely visible by most people.

The partial solar eclipse on Friday the 13th will not be visible from India.

Sometime between 3.30pm and 4pm New Zealand time, the eclipse will approach Stewart Island, New Zealand.

The moon's shadow will mostly fall over the open ocean waters that lie between Australia and Antarctica - the region where the Indian and Pacific oceans merge.

A small part of northern Antarctica would be able to watch the eclipse too.

Who can see the partial solar eclipse? In partial solar eclipse or "aanshik surya grahan", however, the Moon only partly obscures the Sun's disk.

What is a partial eclipse?

North Americans who are outside the approximately 70-mile-wide path of totality will experience a partial eclipse on Monday.

A total solar eclipse occurs whenever the moon passes directly in front of the sun just enough to cover it up.

The eclipse is expected to last around one hour and four minutes from start to finish.

While the partial solar eclipse will not be visible to Indians, they can enjoy the LIVE web stream of NASA that will showcase this spectacle on NASA's website, Youtube channel and periscope @NASA.

Why solar eclipse should not be seen with naked eyes?

The July 13 eclipse is particularly rare because it will occur on Friday the 13th, a date that has always been considered a harbinger of bad luck by popular culture. However, even it will not be visible from India.

Astronomers expect those two cities to only see about two percent or less of the eclipse.

NASA advises that it is risky to see solar eclipses through naked eyes and it can damage eyes.

The safest way to witness a solar eclipse is with special filter-protected glasses and telescopes, or by looking indirectly using an eclipse viewer.
