Sprint is excited to announce that it’s making its mobile plan worse

Sprint outlined its new unlimited pricing

The latest effort comes from Sprint, with the Now Network unveiling a pair of new unlimited offerings that shake up the features a bit. First up is what Sprint calls "Unlimited Plus".

The nation's fourth-largest wireless carrier, awaiting a merger with No. 3 T-Mobile, on Thursday unveiled two unlimited data tiers to replace its single Sprint Unlimited Freedom plan. Veterans, reserve and active service military members can get half off the rate of lines two to five through the Unlimited Military option while 55-and-older customers can get the same service on Unlimited 55+ with two lines costing $70 per month. It also comes with Hulu and 5 GB of roaming data in Canada and Mexico.

To be clear, Sprint's pricing now largely lines up with T-Mobile's Unlimited One plan, which provides one line of service for $70 per month and four lines of service for $160 per month.

Unlimited Plus features unlimited talk, text, and data, full HD (1080p) streaming, 15GB hotspot data at LTE speeds (3G after), unlimited talk/text plus 10GB of data in Canada/Mexico, and subscriptions to Hulu's limited commercial option and Tidal Premium. A second line costs $50 and following lines are $30. The new plans take over on Friday. The plan includes unlimited data, talk, and text.

The price change signals that the high times for wireless bargain hunters are over.

In other words, Sprint is raising the price of its current unlimited plan by $10, throwing in a few more features, and hoping you won't notice. At that price, you're obviously better off choosing Unlimited Plus if you need a bunch of unlimited lines and you already own the phones. And Sprint's 4G LTE network is the most improved in the US with national average download speeds up 30.9 percent year-over-year, more than any other national carrier.6 Sprint is making its largest network investment in years and its Next-Gen Network build is well underway.

"Customers told us that they wanted more from their wireless - more choice, more features and more value", said Dow Draper, Sprint chief commercial officer.

Sprint has been the most aggressive carrier in attracting new users.

However, despite similar pricing, Basic does not offer the same service Freedom did.

The new plans also have their own promotion. Sprint intends to continue to tailor plans so that customers can get the best choice for them. The company argues that its service is almost as good despite a more affordable price, although the bigger carriers would debate that point. If you bring over five lines, that cost per-line goes down to $32.
