They were only fingernails, but to Shridhar Chillal, cutting them off probably felt a bit like cutting off his own hand.

The man who held the Guinness World Record for longest fingernails ever has chose to cut them off and donate them to a museum in York.

The Guinness World Record holder for the longest fingernails ever on a single hand has had his claws cut after 66 years.

A technician wearing a face mask was tasked with removing the nails using a power tool while the severed talons have been donated a NY museum where they will remain on display for all the world to see.

"Chillal dedicated his life to something truly remarkable and Ripley's is the ideal home to honor his legacy", a rep says, per the Hindu.

Chillal clipped his nails, which had a combined length of 909.6 cm during a nail clipping ceremony in Times Square.

"I don't know whether the teacher is dead now or not but I would definitely like to say that the thing for which you scolded me, I took it as a challenge and I have completed the challenge and now, I am here", he said.

He's now looking forward to some relief, having complained of pain in his arm, shoulder, and fingertips.

So Chillal did exactly that, spending the next six decades or so growing them out to record levels.
