Ahead Of Summit With Putin, Trump Calls China, Russia And EU "Foes"

On the eve of his critical meeting with Vladimir Putin, President Trump denounced the European Union as a foe, picking the bloc out of a global line-up ahead of Russian Federation and China in a further sign of his unease with traditional allies. China's a foe economically, certainly they are a foe. "I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade".

Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, replied on Twitter using one of Trump's favorite stock phrases.

"America and the European Union are best friends". "Whoever says we are foes is spreading fake news". "Nevertheless, Germany owes vast sums of money to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the United States must be paid more for the powerful, and very expensive, defense it provides to Germany", Trump said in a two-tweet statement after meeting with Merkel for the first time in March 2017.

Trump and his aides have been working through the weekend to soften expectations for tangible results from the meeting.

Trump added although he respects European Union leaders, he described the 28-member bloc as "very hard". "I'm not going with high expectations".

"President Trump is the leader of a great country".

His latest statements come days after the special counsel indicted 12 Russian intelligence agents for interference in the 2016 United States presidential election.

With that in mind, a senior House of Representatives Republican told CBS's "Face the Nation" that Trump should ask Putin in Helsinki which airport the Russian hackers will be extradited to for being taken into USA custody.

"Well, I think we have a lot of foes". The US leader added that he doesn't necessarily view them negatively.

The comments follow a contentious North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels where Trump urged members to spend more on defense, as well as scolding Germany for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project with Russian Federation. Trump has made it clear he wants to destroy North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, which is among Putin's top goals. Last week, Trump embarked on a foreign tour in Europe that began with a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation conference, a visit to the United Kingdom and is expected to end with a summit in Finland with Russian President Vladamir Putin. He kind of goes in and wings it", Warner said on NBC's "Meet the Press.

Today, Mr Trump left Britain after a visit in which his criticism of Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan overshadowed attempts to present a strengthened bilateral relationship. Look at the millions of cars they sell in the US. Russia's constitution forbids the extradition of its own citizens.
