Google Phone App for Android Gets Built-In Caller ID and Spam Protection

Google often rolls out new and innovative features to its applications.

Google has rolled out "caller ID and spam protection" on its Phone app with which the app itself would be able to filter out calls that it detects to be spam, eliminating all notifications and alerts for those calls as well. You will still be able to see filtered calls, and you can still check your voicemails when you want.

Calls that have been blocked will still show up in the history, but the phone won't ring when the call comes in, and there won't be any notification to warn the user of a missed call either.

Google's phone app has had built-in warnings about suspected spam calls for some time, but this change takes things to the next level as these calls can now be muted automatically.

The Google Phone app isn't included with every Android phone, as some manufacturers opt to include their own dialer, but those that do should be receiving the update already. Don't forget that you can enable this new feature by going to Settings / Caller ID & spam, and tapping the toggle Filter spam calls option.

In short, a user would not be notified about the spam calls arrived on his/her devices. To do this, users will need to open the Phone app and go to Recents. This feature will protect you from the spam callers and will block the calls coming from unknown sources. Users will then be asked if they want to block the number.
