May: Trump told me to 'sue the EU' over Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May and U.S President Donald Trump hold a joint press conference at Chequers in Buckinghamshire England Friday

In a press conference on Friday that revolved mostly around Trump's criticism of May, the American president claimed repeatedly that he was misquoted.

"It means we deliver on the Northern Ireland border".

The ministers resigned over May's blueprint for a deal with the European Union post-Brexit.

The PM made clear she rejected taking legal action against the bloc, by telling Mr Marr that "actually we're going into negotiations with them".

And he went out of his way to talk up one of her main rivals, Boris Johnson, who resigned earlier this week as foreign secretary. "Even if he's only there for four years, every four years we have an election and there are 67 million people who support him, so what are the chances that this is the end?"

He added, "We would make a great deal with the United Kingdom, because they have product that we like".

And as May struggles to hold her own government together, with the never-ending arguments about Brexit negotiations threatening to tear her Conservative party apart.

In Edinburgh, thousands of people marched through the city in a demonstration against the US President and waved placards as they gathered in the Scottish capital's Meadows, where two giant nappy-clad baby Trump balloons were inflated.

"So I want us to be able to sit down to negotiate the best deal for Britain".

The Prime Minister acknowledged that there were strong feelings regarding the terms of Britain's withdrawal from the EU.

"Theresa May has got a lot of great qualities - I am not sure if it is the right leader at the right time", Bannon, Trump's former strategist and a key player in his 2016 election campaign, was quoted by the Daily Telegraph as saying.

"I think maybe she found it too brutal!"

"David Davis was discussing with [EU chief negotiator] Michel Barnier". It would remove our ability to have an independent trade policy at all, conceding Britain's role on the global stage as a force for free trade and endangering people's jobs and livelihoods.

"I know there are some who have concerns about the "common rule book" for goods and the customs arrangements which we have proposed will underpin the new UK-EU free trade area".

Speaking about the capital's violent crime and stabbings he said chief constables all accepted there was a link between a cut in police resources and an increase in crime, adding: "I'm not excusing criminality, but we need the Government to step up and help us". "The prize is leaving the European Union in a way that's in our national interests", adding that she would see off any leadership challenge as she's "in this for the long term".
