UK's Theresa May: Trump told me to 'sue the EU' over Brexit

Trump allegedly said if the Prime Minister attempted to maintain strong ties with the European Union then a trade deal with the USA would be unlikely. The initial invitation by Prime Minister Theresa May was for a state visit, which involved pomp and ceremony.

"We need to keep our eyes on the prize". If we don't, we risk ending up with no Brexit at all.

Speaking at a press conference announcing the charges today, Rod Rosenstein, the deputy United States attorney general (pictured at center above), said the indictment (PDF) didn't contain allegations that the hacking had actually influenced the outcome of the 2016 election.

Britons voted to leave the European Union in a referendum in June 2016 and the issue has dominated the political landscape since.

Facing criticism over Brexit and her party being in tatters, she stood firmly behind her blueprint for a deal going forward.

Offering words of advice, the editorial added: "She now needs to learn the lesson, and to lead Britain, Brexit or no Brexit, into a constructive and effective relationship with our more dependable allies, who share our values, in Europe".

Theresa May has revealed a piece of advice she ignored from US President Donald Trump.

In the weeks before Trump's inauguration, May sent Trump a copy of the text of Churchill's 1941 Christmas Eve radio address to Americans, delivered while the prime minister was staying with Roosevelt after Pearl Harbor.

Brexit Secretary David Davis and Johnson, the former foreign secretary, both quit this week to protest May's trade plan.

It plunged the Government into turmoil and left Mrs May battling for her political survival amid a mutiny from her MPs, who are threatening to topple her if she does not ditch the plan.

He added: "The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one people voted on".

"Be in no doubt: under the government's proposal our fingers would still be caught in this mangle and the European Union would use it ruthlessly to punish us for leaving and handicap our future competitiveness", Davis said.

Trump praised May and her qualities, and said that he would be satisfied with whatever Brexit deal Britain struck with the EU.

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr show, Mrs May said the US President also advised her not to walk away from negotiations.

"We would make a great deal with the United Kingdom because they have product that we like", Trump said.

Britain has had a sharp lesson in dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump's appetite for disruption.

The charges were drawn up by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director who is looking into Russian interference in the November 2016 vote and whether any members of Trump's campaign team colluded with Moscow.
