Elon Musk Calls Thai Rescue Cave Diver a "Pedo" in Twitter Attack

Meanwhile, Musk's team had abandoned the submarine. Musk, for no reason whatsoever, called Unsworth a "pedo".

Mr Unsworth, who provided mapping knowledge of the cave to rescuers, said Mr Musk's prototype would have had "absolutely no chance of working".

British caver Vernon Unsworth gets out of a pick up truck near the Tham Luang cave complex in the northern province of Chiang Rai, Thailand, July 5, 2018. James Anderson, a partner at Baillie Gifford, Tesla's fourth-largest shareholder, said in a recent Bloomberg interview the company needed a period of "peace and execution", adding: "It would be good to just concentrate on the core task". It wouldn't have made the first fifty metres into the cave from the dive start point. Unsworth had also stated in a column on Mediate, that he felt it was a publicity stunt for Musk because he had to know it wouldn't work. Unsworth said the billionaire "was asked to leave very quickly".

Vern Unsworth, a British rescue worker and cave diver who was "instrumental" in locating the boys before transferring the mission to more specialized rescue operatives, criticized the billionaire for his promotion of a submarine that Musk claimed could assist in the rescue. Lashing out and calling a guy who was actually part of the rescue operation in a measurable way a pedophile is probably not a great move! He wrote that he was escorted into the cave by Thai Navy SEALS - "total opposite of wanting us to leave". Huge credit to pump & generator team. We will make one of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problem.

Musk responded on Sunday in a weird series of tweets referring to Mr Unsworth without using his name as "pedo guy".

Musk's tweets weren't met positively by netizens. "Calling someone a pedo is very unsafe and you actually could be sued".

When he was called out for his comments about Unsworth, Musk doubled down, replying, "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true".

While many have applauded Musk's efforts, naming his a real-life Tony Stark for his desire to help others, he's also been heavily criticised for his involvement.

"Unsung heroes here", Musk added. Badly. Very, very badly.

Taylor Nichol, a former Herald journalist, had sharp words for Musk too.

"If I were Elon Musk I would avoid slinging about pedo as an insult given his dad literally had a baby with his own stepdaughter", wrote Nichol. He proceeded to post regular updates on social media, including photos and a video of a "kid-size" submarine being constructed and tested.
