On the Basis of Sex Trailer: Felicity Jones is Ruth Bader Ginsburg

On the Basis of Sex’ trailer Felicity Jones as a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The story follows Ruth as she teams up with her husband to bring a groundbreaking case of gender discrimination before the U.S. Court of Appeals. Armie Hammer co-stars as Ginsburg's supportive husband Marty.

Released just under one month shy of the 25th anniversary of Ginsburg assuming her role as a Supreme Court justice on August 10, 1993, the trailer for On the Basis of Sex previews the film's deep dive into the 85-year-old's early life as an aspiring game-changer for gender politics in the United States - with a particular emphasis on a specific, groundbreaking case she, as a young lawyer, brought before the U.S. Court of Appeals that laid the foundation for her lasting legacy of overturning decades of discrimination.

Sporting a blue and green skater dress, it is clear from the trailer that Ruth means business as her passion for overcoming gender discrimination is exposed when she revels in excelling her all-male law classmates. When it comes to Hollywood, however, it seems as though she's just now getting her due.

"You don't get to tell me when to quit", says Jones-as-Ginsburg in one of several Big Speech Moments in a newly released sneak peek of the "inspired by a true story" film.

The feature opens on December 25 in line with Justice Ginsburg's 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court. Written by Daniel Stiepleman, the film also stars Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates, Sam Waterston, Jack Reynor, and Cailee Spaeny. Or in Jones's case, "laaaws" - more specifically the almost 200-such laws that differentiated on the basis of sex and which Ginsburg fought to change.

The new film, set to hit theaters at Christmastime, follows Ginsburg as she takes the case Weinberger v. Wiesenfeld - in which a widower was denied his wife's Social Security benefits - to the Supreme Court.
