Open 2018: Golf superstar Tiger Woods arrives in Tayside

Padraig Harrington will take time to "smell the roses" as he returns to the scene of his first major title in this week's Open Championship at Carnoustie.

"I have missed playing in The Open a lot because it is our oldest tournament and coming here to Carnoustie is just special", Woods told reporters.

"An Open Championship requires a lot of feel and imagination, and that's what I needed a bit of in my game". "It's hard. It's probably the most difficult one we play in the whole rotation".

He said: "I had got very technical and into making everything flawless instead of the way I normally play".

Again, narrow would not seem to favor Woods, who is now No. 175 on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy, but anything can happen when you put longer irons into the hands of one of the greatest players who's ever lived. This week provides that opportunity where you don't know how far the ball is necessarily going to go off the tee.

"The easiest thing about playing this style of golf is that it is right in front of you and there also is not a lot of blind shots and only a couple here".

"No, no I don't have to relearn how to play this style of golf because I have played in so many Open's and so many links courses over my career", he said.

And after fellow Masters champion, Patrick Reed joked that he would only watch Woods tackle Mickelson if they each put up their own money, Woods responded: "Of course, that is what Patrick would like to see and it would be good of him to put up that money (laughing)".

"It wasn't an enjoyable experience, but it's done", said Spieth. "That would be ideal".

The pair's hauls include both British Open and US Masters titles. Following Spieth's Open victory last July, Justin Thomas, 25, won the PGA Championship.

"There's no doubt about it and there's no other way to put it, than they have an exceptional bunch of players at the moment", said Fleetwood.

Fleetwood had matched the lowest score in US Open history with a superb 63 as he stormed through the field in the final round and he is keen to rediscover that kind of form.

This will be Woods' 20th Open appearance, having missed the tournament in 2008, 2011, 2016 and 2017.

"Straight after the US Open I wanted The Open to start straight away because you are on such a high", he said.

"I'm coming back as kind of a defending champion although Jordan [Spieth] won past year and it does make it a little more special", Harrington said.

"One shot is a quarter of a shot a round so it's not that much. There's no good reason why I can't win a major".
