Prince Harry, Meghan visit Nelson Mandela exhibition

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are continuing their tour of royal duties this week, stopping by a new exhibit in London celebrating the 100th birthday of former South African leader and worldwide icon Nelson Mandela.

Mandela, who was the former president of South Africa, helped bring an end to apartheid and was a global advocate for human rights. Their visit saw the couple meet with survivors of the apartheid movement, including Andrew Mlangeni, 92, who spent 26 years imprisoned on Robben Island after being accused of sabotage against the apartheid government in 1938.

"We thought to commemorate Mandela's centenary there should be an exhibition in London".

During the presentation, Meghan can be seen turning to Prince Harry and showing him her arm, implying that the song was giving her goosebumps.

They also heard a performance from the Ubunye Choir and viewed items from the exhibit before it opened to the public.

"It was curated by the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and I asked their royal highnesses to come as he does charitable work in southern Africa and she has said before that Nelson Mandela is one of her heroes".

Harry has visited a number of sites associated with Mandela, from his prison cell on Robben Island in 2008, where he was imprisoned for 18 years, to a tour of the statesman's offices, where he met his widow Graca Machel, in 2015.

"But in the odd and uncertain times that we are - and they are unusual, and they are uncertain, with each day's news cycles bringing more head-spinning and disturbing headlines - I thought maybe it would be useful to step back for a moment and try to get some perspective, so I hope you'll indulge me", he said.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped out together in London on Tuesday, marking their first public appearance since Markle's father claimed his daughter looked "terrified" to be a royal.

Obama, who has referred to Mandela as a mentor, made the 16th annual Nelson Mandela Lecture on Tuesday, titled, "Renewing the Mandela Legacy and Promoting Active Citizenship in a Changing World".
