Chelsea and Liverpool to battle for Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson

With fans' anger at Karius reaching breaking point, Klopp has made a decision to swoop for Alisson, but the BBC claims that their world-record fee for a goalkeeper of £62m might not be accepted.

Although the deal was only agreed this week, the move can be traced back to when Roma visited Anfield in April.

Alisson, 25, has impressed in his two year's at Roma and has established himself as the Brazilian national team's No 1.

Discussions between the player and the club are underway, although it is understood that Alisson was already receptive to the move to Liverpool. The goalkeeper was flying to England last night and is expected to have his medical on Saturday.

Chelsea have also been linked with Alisson as they prepare to lose Thibaut Courtois, though it would appear the Blues and Real Madrid are now out of the race.

He spoke to Jurgen Klopp yesterday expressing his desire to join the club and Liverpool then increased their offer to reach the agreement.

Another Brazil global in Liverpool's sights is midfielder Bernard, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Everton.

Alisson has been Klopp's number one target all summer - as first reported by Telegraph Sport on May 27 - the situation growing in urgency after Loris Karius' calamitous Champions League final performance.

Alisson was between the sticks for Brazil in the recent World Cup in Russian Federation where he played all five games, keeping three clean sheets.

Manchester City raised eyebrows previous year when they shelled out £34.9million to sign Ederson from Benfica, a world record (in £) for a goalkeeper.

Alisson is set to become Liverpool's fourth arrival of the summer after Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.
