Trump's military parade: Everything we know about the November 10 event

President Donald Trump's requested military parade would cost the American taxpayer an estimated $12 million, according to an initial assessment released by the Department of Defense on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump's military parade in D.C.is likely to cost almost as much as the now canceled military exercise with South Korea that Trump called "tremendously expensive" and said cost "a fortune", three United States defense officials tell CNN.

CNN reported Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning as saying the parade is being timed with the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, which concluded November 11, 1918 when an armistice was signed between Germany and the Allies.

Trump announced suspension of the war games shortly after his historic summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last month.

North Korea had long sought an end to the joint military exercises, which they viewed as a provocation and threat. That official warned that the $12 million figure is a preliminary estimate that could change depending on the size and scope of the event.

"The intent for the parade", is to coincide with the 100th anniversary of World War I, Manning said. He later tasked the Pentagon with planning a parade of his own.

The White House confirmed this past February that Trump had asked for the parade. US military leaders have said the exercises are necessary to maintain the readiness of USA troops in South Korea.

CNN was first to report the parade's estimated cost.

Trump previously considered the idea of a military parade after attending France's Bastille Day in July 2017, a celebration he called "magnificent".
