Core i9 MacBook Pro Cooling Problems Kill Performance

Apple's new 2018 Mac Book Pro isn't as powerful as it advertises

The previous generation of MacBook Pros come with a faulty keyboard that results in keys getting stuck because of dust. The document titled "Butterfly Mechanism Keycap Replacement MacBook Pro (2018)" also advises service providers to take care not to rip the membrane when performing repairs as it would require "a top case replacement".

When announcing the new MacBook Pro, Apple noted that the laptop features "an improved third-generation keyboard for quieter typing"; however, it told the Verge that the keyboard was not created to address issues with dust and debris.

"Apple's new powerhouse six-core i9 CPU in the 2018 15" MacBook Pro has some pretty massive overheating issues", AppleInsider writes.

The document was seen by at least two distinct sources, including US-based MacRumors and French site MacGeneration, so it definitely looks genuine. Be careful not to tear the membrane. Also, according to MacRumors' report, third-generation keyboards that feature this membrane will not be offered as replacements in the fix program.

If you followed our teardown report of the 13-inch 2018 MacBook Pro, you would have noticed that the teardown experts managed to find a membrane on the keyboard, and there is actually a reason for this. That may be while Apple isn't willing to publicly acknowledge the keyboard design issue that affected the previous notebooks. A couple of days later, private company iFixit discovered that a thin silicone membrane covers the problematic butterfly mechanism under the keyboard, presumably to protect it against dust.

If you don't need to pick up the latest and greatest version of what Apple has to offer then this is one sale that you really should be checking out - Apple has some great laptops on offer, even if they are not the most up-to-date options available.

Unfortunately, owners of the new MacBook Pro with the i9 processor are finding their computers are having a hard time reaching the advertised 2.9GHz speeds - mainly because the laptop's built-in cooling system can't keep up with the intense heat that the Core i9 produces.
