Rumors and leaks about the next smartwatch from Samsung have been coming in thick and fast for the last few weeks, but the latest evidence of its existence all but confirms the name and that it will support LTE. The Gear moniker is nearly certainly set to be dropped for the Galaxy Watch name, and the release date would appear set for 9 August, but the actual look of the device and the software that will be packed inside is still somewhat up in the air.
Earlier this month it was revealed, albeit unofficially, that Samsung's next-generation smartwatch will embrace a name that departs from the traditional Gear branding: the Galaxy Watch.
As you can see from the images we included here that were snapped from FCC pages, the device says "SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH" across its back case.
The Galaxy Watch will be the first smartwatch under the Galaxy branding, presumably as part of Samsung's move to streamline its family of products under a single naming scheme. Whether that sort of support will be adopted in other countries like the United Kingdom and Australia is now uncertain.
The case measures in at 51.2mm x 43.4mm, so it's on the bigger side for a watch, yet smaller for a smartwatch. Wi-Fi b/g/n (only at 2.4GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2 LE are also on board.
In particularly exciting news, the smartwatch looks set to receive an upgrade in its operating system, moving on from the Wear OS to Samsung's own Tizen, reports Android Headlines. We don't now know how thick it's going to be.
