The orders keep flowing at the Farnborough Air Show

Airlines in India are increasing their capacity to address the demand at the fastest-growing aviation market in the world

Four undisclosed customers signed commitments for a total of 93 737 MAXs, including a carrier that has committed to 40 of the high-capacity version - the MAX 10.

But the list was heavily overshadowed by deals where the names of the buyers were undisclosed - an unusual phenomenon at a high profile event specifically created to attract publicity. Combined, the deals are worth $4.2 billion at list prices. Boeing may also report at least one undisclosed order this week.

In 2015, Jet Airways had placed an order for 75 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, and had extended it by another 75 earlier this year.

US -based Boeing announced a total of 673 orders and commitments for planes, compared with 571 at last year's Paris Air Show, which alternates with Farnborough as the aviation industry's premier showcase.

However, aircraft finance industry sources have expressed doubts over whether all the planes on order would be delivered on schedule amid a glut of airplane orders in the region. The expo culminated with the AirAsia announcement, which at once buoyed the backlog for the A330neo, which has struggled competing with Boeing's popular 787 Dreamliner, while revealing that the narrow-body component had fallen at the final hurdle.

One of the biggest orders of the day came from Republic Airways who signed a letter of intent for up to 200 of the E-Jets.

VietJet CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao insisted on Wednesday the airline would use both the A320 and 737 aircraft in its fleet and would have "no problem" taking delivery.

But the planemaker's hopes of securing an additional order for 100 A321neo from AirAsia appeared to have been dashed.

Industry officials said Airbus was also driven by a desire to boost its show tally by including deals with customers that were not ready to announce publicly or needed approvals.
