War with Iran is the mother of all wars, Rouhani tells Trump

Addressing Iranian diplomats, Mr Rouhani said: "America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars".

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected on Saturday the idea of new negotiations with the United States, praising the latest comments by Iranian president Hassan Rouhani in which he threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz if new oil sanctions are imposed against Tehran.

"You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran's security and interests", Rouhani said.

US President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled out of a 2015 deal signed by President Obama.

Iran and other members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, including Saudi Arabia and Iraq, ship much of their crude through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian chief executive also voiced Tehran's willingness to establish friendly relations with the world, especially neighboring countries, saying, "Even if a neighbor like Saudi Arabia does away with its stubbornness and expresses willingness toward [friendly] relations, we must resolve the differences and establish friendship". "We see eye to eye that the USA move [to withdraw from the deal] is illegal, against global obligations and to the detriment of the U.S. and all countries", Rouhani said. "Are they prepared to accept this?"

Khamenei added: 'The word and even the signature of the Americans can not be relied upon, so negotiations with America are of no avail.

"Threats will further unite us", he said, vowing to "certainly" defeat the United States.

Iran has warned it is ready to boost its uranium enrichment to higher levels if talks with Europe on salvaging the nuclear deal fail.

"Negotiations with the Europeans should not be stopped, but we should not be just waiting for the European package, but instead we should follow up on necessary activities inside the country (against USA sanctions)", Khamenei said.

"Of course the European sides [to the JCPOA] are obligated to provide necessary guarantees with regard to the JCPOA, but the country's economy must not be tied to this issue", the Leader stated in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet in Tehran.
