Smash Bros. Ultimate: 5 New Characters Revealed!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns with Castlevania's Simon Belmont and Way More Info

The inclusion of Simon and fellow vampire hunter Richter Belmont as playable characters in Ultimate was the first of many reveals packed into the half-hour Direct presentation, hosted by Smash series creator Masahiro Sakurai. Simon seems a touch slow, but his whip gives him a huge amount of range and it looks like he hits hard.

That new stage will include 34 Castlevania music tracks that you can listen to while you brawl. Up until now, each stage had its own music track. The son of Dracula will appear as a particularly fearsome Assist Trophy, attacking in his normal dhampir form as well as turning into mist or a swarm of bats.

As revealed at the very end of the presentation, you'll also be able to play as King K. Rool from the Donkey Kong Country games.

The videos star Simon Belmont, King K. Rool, and Echo fighters Dark Samus, Chrom, and Richter Belmont.

In Wednesday morning's "Direct" announcement, Sakurai revealed that Simon Belmont and Richter Belmont from the Castlevania series would be featured as playable characters. The classic Pokemon Stadium, Unova Pokemon League, Garden of Hope, Brinstar Depths, Summit, Magicant, Gamer, and Final Destination stages were all confirmed to be returning. A insane, original story featuring cut-scene cinematics would blow us away, and it wouldn't surprise us if some of the cutscene footage we've seen from character reveals were part of that story mode.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 7. After picking up to 32 participants (and how many of those will be CPUs) players are given bracket options that can include standard 1-on-1 battles or 4-on-4 madness with a shorter bracket. If they are fighting on a stage from The Legend of Zelda, for example, they can select any music track included from that franchise, including new additions like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Main Theme.

Tourneys: A variant of an offline tournament mode is a Smash Bros. staple.
