James Bond producer says 'it is time' for a black 007

James Bond: Door open for Idris Elba to be ‘first black 007’ | Daily Star

First he was the obvious choice, then he seemed too old, but now he's back in the running - thanks to a weird tip from someone who probably doesn't know anything about it. Idris Elba might still be the next James Bond...

Last August, Craig had revealed he would return to the iconic role one last time, having previously played Bond four times: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. The director also revealed that Elba was a front-runner for the role. "The London-born actor, 45, has both the appearance (he's 6'3") and cool charm to pull off the role. And now, it appears a turn as James Bond is in Elba's future.

According to the report, Bond series producer Barbara Broccoli told director Antoine Fuqua "it is time" for a non-white actor to take on the role of the British super-spy created by Ian Fleming.

"Idris could do it if he was in shape", Fuqua told the Daily Star. You need a guy with physically strong presence.

Several actress have been tipped to play the Bond role in the past, with X Files star Gillian Anderson being shunted to the forefront of speculation after a fan tweeted a convincing poster of her as Bond in 2016.

James Bond 25 will be directed by Danny Boyle and was written by John Hodge. MGM will distribute the film domestically while Universal Pictures will handle worldwide distribution.

Universal Pictures also won the worldwide distribution rights to the film, which will drop in the United Kingdom first on October 25, 2019.
