Lawyer: OSU hasn't contacted Courtney Smith

While players were checking in Monday evening to the hotel where they will stay during camp, around 200 fans rallied in support of Meyer outside Ohio Stadium.

On Friday, Meyer acknowledged that he had "failed" to be "completely accurate" in comments he made at a Big Ten media days session the week before.

Numerous fans in attendance took aim at Brett McMurphy, the independent journalist who first reported that Meyer likely knew about the allegations against Zach Smith in October 2015.

Zach Smith was sacked July 23 after Courtney Smith was granted a protective order, and Courtney Smith has alleged that he abused her on multiple occasions, including in 2015. "I said: 'That's fine, you should tell Urban".

What Meyer knew and when he knew it became a question after college football writer Brett McMurphy reported that Courtney Smith had told Meyer's wife Shelley about the 2015 incidents and shared pictures of injuries through text messages that she shared with McMurphy.

After initially denying any knowledge of the 2015 accusations against Zach Smith, Meyer has since recanted and now claims he followed protocol and told school officials.

Meyer added that there were "more questions to be answered" and he pledged to "cooperate fully" with investigators hired by OSU.

Well, Ohio State did appoint a six-person "independent" working group last week that includes three Board of Trustees members, and announced that the investigation into Meyer's actions is expected to wrap up within 14 days.

In the meantime, a "Save Urban Meyer" petition posted Thursday at Change.org has almost reached its goal of 25,000 signatures.

The university is investigating whether head football coach Urban Meyer and other employees followed proper protocol in reporting the incident, and the school said in a statement Sunday night that it expects to complete its investigation into the matter within two weeks.

Leveridge also said that Smith "received absolutely no compensation" for granting interviews to reporters.
