Newcastle United, Middlesbrough want Harry Arter?

'Thank God' 'He's Bang Average' - These Newcastle Fans Are Relieved as £10m Bid For Irish Star Is Ruled Out

Newcastle United and Cardiff City are also reportedly keen on Arter, and he could prefer a move to a fellow-Premier League side to continue playing at the highest level of English football.

The Daily Echo understands the Bluebirds last night made a formal approach for the 28-year-old midfielder.

Arter, a Republic of Ireland worldwide, has been on the books at Bournemouth since 2010.

Arter, who has three years remaining on his current contract, joined Bournemouth from non-league Woking in June 2010 and played a major role in their first two seasons in the top flight.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has recently added Columbian midfielder Jefferson Lerma for a club record fee, which is likely to push Arter down the pecking order at the Vitality Stadium.

Republic of Ireland global Arter's last start in the top flight came during Cherries' 2-2 draw at Brighton on New Year's Day.

In an interview with the Daily Echo this week, Arter said he had pulled out all the stops during pre-season in a bid to win back his place in the Cherries team. That's why that chat (with Howe) at the end of the season was probably crucial really because it established where we were at in our relationship as a manager and player. "If I am to play again for Bournemouth, I'll always give my all for him and the club".

Indeed, BBC Newcastle claim that Arter is not one of Benitez's targets and the Spaniard is instead looking at other options.

Meanwhile, Cherries midfielder Emerson Hyndman has joined Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian on loan until January.
