Solar eclipse will be visible in southern China on Saturday

This weekend's partial solar eclipse will span across many countries in the Northern hemisphere on Saturday, Aug. 11 - becoming what could be the most widely viewed solar eclipse of 2018.

The first eclipse of 2018 was the super blue blood moon on January 31, but the first partial solar eclipse was on February 15. The Lunar Eclipse 2018 began at 1 AM and continued for 1 hour 43 minutes, making it the longest total lunar eclipse of this century (2001 AD to 2100 AD), the Ministry of Earth Science had said.

However maximum eclipse will happen at 10.46am BST (9.46am UTC).

What is a partial solar eclipse?

. The Aug. 11 eclipse marks the end of this eclipse season after two previous eclipses during the month of July. It will also be a supermoon.

The partial eclipse will be a small eclipse as the moon will cover only the edge of the sun, with much of the star still visible. The view will depend on the onset of the eclipse and the geographic location.

In the partial solar eclipse of August 11, the Moon's shadow will only be able to block out one part of the Sun, which will create a partial eclipse.

The eclipse will officially begin at 9.02am BST (8.02am UTC) when the moon first appears to make contact with the sun's disk.

What time is the solar eclipse?

A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon, Sun and Earth do not align in a perfectly straight line and the Moon casts only the outer part of its shadow, the penumbra on Earth. The eclipse, which will be visible from regions of the Northern hemisphere, will last three hours.

Where can you see the solar eclipse?

The eclipse could be seen at selected places in North and East Asia, Scandinavia in Europe, Iceland, Greenland and the icy regions of Canada around Nunavut and the Northwest Passage.

Those who reside in areas where the eclipse will be visible, must be warned that they should not look at the Sun directly.

The partial solar eclipse must not be watched with bare eyes.

According to the American Astrological Society (AAS), partial solar eclipses can be very risky to look at with the naked eye.
