Torchlight Frontiers Bringing More Dungeon Crawling To Xbox One

Torchlight Frontiers

For those of you wondering, the talent and that made Torchlight the gloomy, goofy hit that it was is all back to work on Torchlight Frontiers.

The latest iteration will be a shared-world action-RPG, bringing back numerous features and mechanics the Torchlight series is known for, with Schaefer assembling "an all-star team of developers", according to Perfect World Senior Vice President, Yoon Im.

Along with the setting, the "signature features and mechanics" also return.

The trailer's YouTube description reads: "Torchlight Frontiers combines the heart of the beloved Torchlight series with a shared, persistent and dynamically generated world". In the game players and their pets team up to "hack and slack their way through" the game. You'll visit ancient ruins, lost civilisations, and cavernous dungeons-doing battle with risky creatures along the way. Publisher Perfect World Entertainment didn't deny the existence of a sequel, but it seemed likely that it would pass over the Diablo-inspired game to focus on other projects. The game is being developed by Echtra Games following the shut down of Runic Games in 2017.

An early demo of Torchlight Frontiers will be playable at Gamescom 2018 from August 21 to 25 and PAX West 2018 from August 31 to September 3.

"What we wanted to do with this one was two things", Echtra Games CEO Max Schaefer tells IGN. Torchlight Frontiers will be a living, breathing universe that will still feel uniquely Torchlight, while we add our own creative spin to the game. Out of the blue, Perfect World has announced that Torchlight Frontiers is in development and will be coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

It's nice to see the franchise make a return, honestly. "We know, for example, we won't have an auction house". It had purchased a majority stake in Runic back in 2010 before buying it outright.
