Twitter CEO Defends Decision Not to Ban Alex Jones, Infowars

"Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users", a company spokesperson said.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Apple confirmed that the controversial InfoWars' InfoWars Official mobile app will remain in its App Store.

Apple took this action after YouTube, Spotify and Facebook had already removed some of Jones' offensive content.

Asked whether Twitter should allow all kinds of speech to exist on the platform, except for violence, Dorsey said there should be some limits. Apple did not host the InfoWars content, but anyone with an Apple device could find and download the podcast episodes through Apple services.

Apple has removed InfoWars podcasts from its iTunes and Podcasts apps, but it's stopping short of doing it in the App Store. Seeing as the company has been so vocal lately about trying to curb "troll-like behaviors" and working to "reduce people's ability to detract from healthy public conversation", it seems like they'd be on board with banning someone who has built his career on harassing the parents of murdered children as well as teenage school shooting victims, who uses his platform to spread risky and hateful misinformation.

The two agreed that users should mute or block accounts that offend them ― though people who feel victimized by Infowars conspiracy theories would likely remind them that Alex Jones' followers have been known to terrorize his targets.

You need only read about the struggles of the parents of Noah Pozner, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook massacre, to understand just how evil and hate-filled Alex Jones is.

Among other claims, Alex Jones (file photo) has called the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting a hoax. He has sought to have the lawsuit dismissed.

Jones says his shows, which are broadcast on radio and online platforms and had been available on YouTube, reached at least 70 million people a week.

Jones' podcasts differed from the Infowars app in a key way.

Twitter has drawn public outcry for not removing Jones' account.

The company is responding by expediting a review of its content policies, according to an internal email that Chief Executive Jack Dorsey shared on Twitter on Wednesday. Several journalists noted on Twitter that Dorsey can be hard to land an interview with, so his decision to go on Hannity's radio show packs an extra punch.
