Star Trek 4 May Lose Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth

The Kelvin Universe big screen movies have, overall, been pretty well received by fans, Star Trek: Discovery is about to launch into what looks like a very exciting second season, CBS have promised to fund multiple new Trek TV projects, Patrick Stewart is returning and Quentin Tarantino's tantalizing entry into the franchise will probably take flight after he's done with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Apparently, both actors and the production companies involved with making the films have both backed off from talks, making it unlikely for both Pine and Hemsworth to return.

It's unfortunate for fans of the series to know that the future of the Star Trek franchise is in peril, especially due to its beloved cast, as well as the fact that a female was to direct the latest installment. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, both Pine and Hemsworth have exited talks to star in Paramount's upcoming Trek sequel after salary negotiations fell apart. Can they get away with recasting the character and his father, who was introduced in the prologue of 2009 franchise reboot? It's unclear if that's still the plan with Pine and Hemsworth's deals falling through. Now, Star Trek 4 has reportedly advanced far enough that deals are already being negotiated between the studio and the returning cast. Pine and Hemsworth are said to be asking for the studios to stick to existing deals, while sources tell THR that Paramount is holding firm to a budget, insisting that the Trek franchise is not successful on the level of something like Marvel. However, it appears Paramount is now going back on those apparent deals in order to try to reel in the budget, as the Star Trek franchise doesn't perform almost as well as either actors' retrospective DC or Marvel projects. The film grossed $343 million across the globe and was budgeted at $190 million, and a source contends that the studio even lost money on the film.

Pine has had a deal in place for years, having signed up for a fourth movie when he made his deal for Star Trek Beyond.

THR's report also indicates that Paramount is balking on their current deals with the actors, saying that Star Trek Beyond underperformed. Sound off int he comments with your thoughts.
