Collectively, the top five actresses brought in an impressive $186 million between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018, before fees and taxes.

Scarlett Johansson's role as Marvel superhero Black Widow catapulted her to the top of Forbes' annual list of the world's highest-paid actresses on Thursday, landing her ahead of Angelina Jolie.

Jolie, 43, earned US$28 million, largely thanks to a payment for the film "Maleficent 2", scheduled for 2020.

And Jennifer who earned $19.5 million (£17 million), who made most of her earnings from lucrative with Emirates airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno, the publication reported.

Jennifer Lawrence takes up fourth place with combined earnings from the TV series "Big Little Lies" and the "X-Men" and a contract with luxury brand Dior.

Rounding out the top 10 were Mila Kunis, Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett, Melissa McCarthy and Gal Gadot.

Finally at fifth place is Reese Witherspoon with recorded earnings of $16.5 million.

Last year, Emma Stone snatched up the number one position with $26 million (£23 million), but Scarlett, who has a large amount of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects to boast of, came home with a massive $40.5 million (£36 millions) this year, according to Forbes. Just two women surpassed $20 million, compared with three in 2017 and four in 2016.
