'I met my IS captor on a German street'

Former Yazidi slave girl flees Germany after being confronted by her ISIS captor-turned refugee

The woman stated she told her brother about her ordeal with Humam.

She also said Humam forced her to convert to Islam, pray five times each day and memorise the Koran in Arabic. "It was Abu Humam, with the same scary beard and ugly face".

Fearful that she would see her captor again and wishing to be reunited with four of her sisters who had since been rescued from IS, Ashwaq returned to northern Iraq, leaving behind the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd where she had hoped to start a new life.

It was on the second day while taking a break at midday that she saw Humam, who is thought to have registered as a refugee in Stuttgart.

At a camp for the displaced in nearby Iraqi Kurdistan where he has been resettled, her father, Haji Hamid, 53, admits returning was not an easy decision, even though the government proclaimed victory over IS at the end of a year ago.

The judicial police in the Baden-Wuerttemberg region of southwestern Germany said an inquiry was opened on March 13 but that Ashwaq was not present to answer questions.

Ashwaq said she had viewed surveillance videos filmed in the supermarket together with German police and was ready to keep them informed of her whereabouts. "I know where you live and what you are doing"'.

Frauke Köhler, a spokeswoman for Germany's top court, says police made every effort to locate Abu Hummam using the e-fit image and Ashwaq's testimony, but were unable to find him. "Ashwaq and her family are going through bad times".

Not all cases are reported to the authorities, however.

But she said that, just as with Spain, the Greek agreement would affect migrants entering via Germany's border with Austria and Germany would be able to send the migrants back to Greece within 48 hours.

Ashwaq Ta'lo and her entire family were rounded up in a raid on the Yazidi heartland of northern Iraq in 2014.

"We're scared of the people of IS", her father told the BBC.

Like many Yazidis, her family is now applying to live in Australia as part of a special programme for women abducted by IS.
