Lionel MESSI scores sensational free kick in FC Barcelona win against Alaves

Messi fired a fantastic free-kick under the wall to open the scoring - Barcelona's 6,000th La Liga goal.

Barcelona were awarded a free kick and the club captain stepped up and hit the ball under the Alaves wall and went in to make it 1-0 for last season's La Liga winners.

"Messi is a genius", Valverde told a news conference.

"You have to be ready to expect anything from Messi because he sees what no one else sees". You don't know what he is going to do but he does know.

"We're lucky to be involved in football during the era in which he is playing - we want him to pull a rabbit from the hat every day".

After Philippe Coutinho doubled Barcelona's lead in the 83rd minute, Messi scored his second goal of the day with the last kick of the game to increase his all-time La Liga tally to 385 goals - or 6.4% of all of Barcelona's league goals in their history.

Earlier, Celta Vigo drew 1-1 at home with Espanyol.

Messi will hope to lead Barcelona to more silverware this season, while his perennial battle with Cristiano Ronaldo will have to take place exclusively in Europe after the Portuguese forward left Real Madrid for Juventus.

"All the same, the second goal was hard to get too".

Gerard Moreno scored on his debut to put Villarreal ahead after 16 minutes but goals from Willian Jose and Juanmi gave Real Sociedad victory.
