Aladdin Actor Joshua Dela Cruz Will Lead Nickelodeon's Blue's Clues Reboot

Shelly Sumpter Gillyard, Executive Vice President of Talent, Music, and Events for the Nickelodeon Group supported the decision, saying, "The search for the new host of Blue's Clues & You was no small task, but we knew as soon as we met Josh that he was the ideal choice".

New "Blue's Clues and You" host Joshua Dela Cruz with original "Blue's Clues" host Steve Burns. Blue's Clues & You begins production later this month, and should be expected to premiere by early 2019. Blue's Clues original host Steve Burns helped guide the audition process during the search for the new host.

Blue's Clues & You is Dela Cruz's TV debut as a series regular.

"The search for the new host of Blue's Clues & You was no small task, but we knew as soon as we met Josh that he was the ideal choice", said Shelly Sumpter Gillyard, Executive Vice President, Talent, Music and Events, Nickelodeon Group. "I had the great honor of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up!"

Dela Cruz's background in the theater will only help in his new role, and that's one of the key reasons Nickelodeon picked him for the part. The show will still center on the host's interactions with Blue, an adorable puppy who leaves pawprints on clues for the viewers to try and solve. "He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt". Producers were impressed by " his genuineness to his comedic timing and range", said Shelly Sumpter Gillyard, executive vice president of talent, music and events, Nickelodeon Group. Many preschooler favorites are presented "magazine-style", with a collection of short segments, but "Blue's Clues" always stood apart from the pack because it took viewers through a storyline from start to finish. He made his television debut with a guest spot on CBS' Bull a year ago and appeared in ABC's Time After Time.

Cruz has played in a variety of Broadway shows, most recently as the understudy in Aladdin.

The classic kids' program, Blue's Clues, is getting a makeover.

"I remember "Blue's Clues" encapsulated everything that I love: curiosity, the adventure of going to new places, skiddooing into a picture, exercising your imagination, being able to sing and dance and be silly, and then to draw on top of that, it was magic", he said.

The original Blue's Clues launched in September 1996 and ran for six seasons. It explored subjects such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions and anatomy.

Dela Cruz is, in a way, picking up a baton.
