Jamie Dimon doesn't have the 'smarts' to be president

Jamie Dimon

JPMorgan CEO and noted bitcoin basher Jamie Dimon says he's not running for president, but he wants everyone to know that, if he did, he could defeat incumbent President Donald Trump.

Still, Trump-never one to let a negative comment slide by, as per his advice in his 1987 memoir, The Art of the Deal-clapped back at Dimon, saying it's his "great economic policy" that makes bankers like Dimon look "much smarter than they are".

US President Donald Trump has hit back against Wall Street banker Jamie Dimon, who said he could win against Trump in the 2020 presidential elections. "I'm not running for president". "He could punch me all he wants, it wouldn't work with me".

"I think I could beat Trump", Dimon said early Wednesday, according to media accounts.

"I can't beat the liberal side of the Democratic Party".

Mr Dimon, 62, has said in the past that he would not run for president and does not have the temperament for the job.

"And by the way this wealthy New Yorker actually earned his money", Mr Dimon added. "It wasn't a gift from Daddy", meaning Trump.

"I should not have said it", he said in a statement.

Dimon was a member of the president's strategy and policy forum - a council of US business leaders - which disbanded past year in the backlash to Trump's response to a white-supremacist rally in Charlottesville. He has since said that he regrets his more aggressive remarks but remains uninterested in bitcoin.

Later on Wednesday after making those comments, Dimon denied any interest in running for president.
