Scott Morrison’s Twitter video causing social media uproar

Australia's new PM Scott Morrison has been described as relentless ambitious and hard-line

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has again responded to criticism of the odd Fatman Scoop video his team posted on social media last night, telling reporters in Sydney that using the track Be Faithful was the wrong call - and admitting he hasn't finished his quest to connect to everyday Australia.

Morrison eventually deleted the meme and apologised, tweeting that "the full lyrics of the song used in my earlier video from QT today were just not OK". The video also drew scrutiny for the seeming insult of incredibly well-paid pollies being soundtracked by the credo "If you got a hundred dollar bill, put your hands up". When I found out, I asked the team to take it down.

The tweet appeared to be a lighthearted joke, with Mr Morrison's caption declaring Question Time was "on fire".

Put your hands up if you have had to get your staff to delete a poorly thought-out hip hop video from your personal Twitter account after a fairly boring Question Time. Many pointed out that the song, a global hit in 1999, had explicit language and sexual references.

In a press conference later on Friday, the prime minister said the clip was just a "bit of fun".

And while many saw the humorous side to it, with some saying the "gold" clip was refreshing to see from a national leader, others branded it an "embarrassing" PR stunt and accused Mr Morrison of behaving like a teenager when he has more serious things to focus on.

Labor MPs were quick to join the mockery online.

The clip was accompanied by a caption that read (and I apologise in advance for this): "QT was on fire today", followed by the fire emoji.
