Demi Lovato's mom breaks silence on overdose

Demi Lovato's mom breaks silence on overdose

"It's still a really hard thing to talk about", Dianna said in an interview with Newsmax TV. "I was in shock, like, what is going on?"

"I didn't know what to say", Dianna recounted. And the first lines of these texts said.I'm praying for Demi. I hesitated to ask, but I had to ask her. I answered the phone and Kelsey was rambling like she had obviously been through something bad, and she said, 'I need to tell you what's going on ... you're going to see a report come out.' I stopped her and said, 'Kelsey, just tell me what's going on.' The next words that came out of her mouth were words ... that are so hard to hear as a parent.

"I don't think she would be here if it hadn't been for those prayers and the good doctors and Cedars-Sinai", De La Garza, who's now raising awareness of the opioid crisis, said.

"We got there as quickly as we could".

"We ran into the emergency room to be by her side, and she just didn't look good, at all".

"I'm frustrated cause I want to hug Demi and I can't", added another.

Over the next few days, while her daughter was held in critical condition, De La Garza says she relied on her faith to help her though.

She says it was absolutely touch-and-go for several days - "We just didn't know for 2 days if she was going to make it".

In addition to the swift work from medical professionals, De La Garza credits Lovato's survival to "the millions of prayers that went up that day".

"You don't see it coming, and that's the scary thing". Dianna says Demi is doing very well in rehab and feeling happy and healthy.

The Confident singer was rushed to hospital in July after being found unresponsive in her Hollywood Hills home, and has since checked into a rehabilitation facility to help her regain sobriety.

The former child star has struggled with addiction, mental illness and disordered eating for years. "So thank you for helping me speak out". But just three months later, she opened up about a recent relapse when she released her autobiographical new single "Sober" on June 21.

Lovato's mother said she's now become an "accidental spokeswoman" for the opioid crisis after going through this terrifying ordeal.
