Eerie spiderweb covers entire shoreline in Greece

The spiders are likely from the genus Tetragnatha which are commonly known as stretch spiders due to their elongated

Greek biologist Fotis Pergantis said the spiders are trying to catch gnats.

Like a scene out of a horror movie, the town of Aitoliko in western Greece was covered in 1,000-foot-long spiderwebs.

The cobweb has completely swamped vegetation on the beach.

However, Daily Hellas revealed that the rather eerie scene is a yearly sight for the residents of Aitoliko. These spiders are not risky for humans and will not cause any damage to the area's flora. Just when you thought you these guys could not get more invasive, they invade a whole Greek town... for a sex party.

"Therefore, we would say that it is an opportunistic phenomenon in this case where exploiting the spiders all these conditions "decide" to give it to understand and grow, to reproduce", Chatzaki said.

Ms Chatzaki also pointed out that it is a relatively common phenomenon that occurs every couple of years.

In the interview, Democritus University of Thrace assistant professor Maria Chatzaki said: "The spiders will have their party and die soon". These types of spiders can be found in many areas around the world, including the United States.

Humid conditions are said to be behind the appearance of the arachnids.

The spiders themselves are characterized by elongated bodies. They are commonly called stretch spiders due to their elongated body form.

High temperatures have sparked a sexual frenzy among the spiders, causing them to build a vast network of webs alongside the lagoon in Greece.
