Volunteer ‘Cat Napper’: 75-Year-Old Man Naps With Shelter Cats

"He also accidentally falls asleep most days", the shelter said.

He said he never would have thought photos of him sleeping with the cats would be so popular. Feldhausen said she and other shelter staffers have been collecting photos of the touching moments for a while and finally decided they were too special not to share.

With a grooming brush in hand, Terry Lauerman first arrived at the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary roughly six months ago, Elizabeth Feldhausen, the founder of the sanctuary, told Fox News on Friday.

Terry Lauerman naps with a kitty at the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary. Then he'll wake up and move onto a doze with the next cat.

According to the shelter, Terry went on to say "we should all pray for him to win the lottery so he can donate it to his cat friends".

Every Monday through Saturday, Lauerman swings by the shelter for two or three hours to visit the cats, pet them, feed them treats and, most importantly, brush them.

"We are so lucky to have a human like Terry", the rescue wrote.

Feldhausen considers Lauerman an expert cat brusher who is helping socialize cats that desperately need it. "Terry is a wonderful volunteer".

The post took off as people fell in love with the dedicated, nap-loving volunteer. The sight of cats who are often victims of abuse or illness so relaxed and comfortable warmed hearts nationwide. The photos were viewed and shared tens of thousands of times, which flabbergasted Lauerman when he found out.

"He was SHOCKED! I tried to explain to him that he's famous now".

If anyone's looking for a little inspiration for their post-retirement career, you could do a lot worse than taking a cue from Wisconsin's Terry Lauerman.

Eventually, Terry began going to the shelter every day and now he even knows what the cats like or dislike.

For many retirees, there comes a point they decide they want to dedicate some of their free to giving back to the community.

It just so happens that Lauerman's good work has captured the internet's attention, with Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary's Facebook post being shared over 17,000 times and liked by over 30,000 users.

"Terry is very grateful, and very surprised that this all came out from accidentally falling asleep!"
