Wilfried Zaha on Manchester United 'hell' and rumours about David Moyes' daughter

"People think your life's different because you've got money, you've got fame, so they don't treat you the same".

"I do generally, we've all got a duty of care for the game to try and improve the game to try and make it better and better", he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Zaha's Crystal Palace side take on Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday before travelling to West Brom in the League Cup on Tuesday.

"There were rumours that the reason I wasn't playing [many games] for United was because I slept with [then manager] David Moyes's daughter, and no one [at the club] attempted to clear that up".

"I was fighting my demons by myself, these rumours that I knew weren't true".

He added: "I was dealing with this at 19 - living in Manchester by myself, nowhere near anyone else, because the club had a hold over where I lived".

As United proceeded to wrap up the Premier League (largely thanks to Robin van Persie's inspired performances), Zaha arrived as a 20-year-old English winger looking primed to really kick-on and become a driving force in the English top flight.

"I may not get the red carpet, it may not have the same Nike deals as when you play for England, but I'm going to be playing, I'm going to be loved, and that's all I want. When we talk about you can not ask for a yellow card during the game, (what about) asking for a red card before the game?"

Yesterday Hodgson - whose team are at Newcastle today - said: "Wilf is a person who has a strong sense of justice".

"But for me, I've seen him come through as youngster and he is a fantastic player, the only way is up for him".

"Certainly it is frustrating when it feels like people are taking positions in order to generate calls in to their show or just because they feel that way inclined that evening".

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson denied that the club had contacted Professional Game Match Officials Ltd, the body responsible for match officials in English football, over Zaha's complaints.

"I'm sure that [referee Andre] Marriner will not have this in the back of his head".
