Bill Cosby Possibly Headed to Jail on Monday

CONSTAND

Cosby is due in court for a two-day sentencing hearing beginning on Monday, where Judge Steven O'Neill will decide his fate at the Montgomery county courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

Bill Cosby, the comedian once known as "America's Dad", could be sentenced to life in prison this week after his conviction for sexual assault.

Bill Cosby's sentencing for three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand, 45, begins today in Philadelphia with an outcome expected as soon as tomorrow.

He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison on each charge, but state guidelines recommend a sentence of about one to four years. That dynamic is on display in the controversy surrounding U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Tuerkheimer said, with Kavanaugh and his allies denying allegations from a woman that he sexually assaulted her in high school.

One key issue for the sentencing hearing is whether Cosby will be designated a "sexually violent predator". The 81-year-old has been free on $1 million bail, but has to wear a Global Positioning System monitoring device. While the judge will ultimately have the final say in Cosby's punishment, the potential consequences for Cosby's crimes allow for many options.

But the Buress clip was the first rumble of an avalanche bearing down on Cosby, prompting dozens of women to come forward with their own stories of abuse by the entertainer, eventually leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction. Most recently, they saw their request to have additional accusers be allowed to testify at the sentencing hearing shot down.

Attorney Gloria Allred, who represents three of the five accusers allowed to testify in the trial, that if Cosby does not serve his time in prison it will be a case of "celebrity justice".

The comedian's arrest in 2015 predated #MeToo, but after a deadlocked jury resulted in a mistrial in June 2017, the subsequent 2018 retrial may have been influenced by the social movement.

Cosby's lawyers oppose the testimony.

Many of Cosby's alleged victims planned to meet ahead of the sentencing to go to the courtroom together today.
