Court Nominee Kavanaugh Is Victim of `MeToo' Fervor, Conway Says

President Donald Trump and most Senate Republicans have said an FBI investigation isn't needed. I asked to testify before the Committee again under oath as soon as possible, so that both Dr. Ford and I could both be heard.

"I am not questioning and have not questioned that perhaps Dr. Ford at some point in her life was sexually assaulted by someone at some place", he added.

The second woman, Colorado resident Deborah Ramirez, has accused Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her at a Yale University dormitory party, putting his penis in her face and causing her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away.

Joining the maelstrom, Michael Avenatti, the attorney representing porn actress Stormy Daniels in her legal fight with President Donald Trump, claimed to represent a woman with information about high school-era parties attended by Kavanaugh and urged the Senate to investigate.

Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford, who came forward with accusations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, said in a letter on Monday to Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley that she felt "agony yet urgency" to tell her story.

Mr Kavanaugh referenced a letter signed by dozens of women he knew in high school which defended the judge, saying "listen to the people who know me best".

He also turned his fury onto Democrats, charging them with running a con game and noting they were beating Republicans in it.

The New Yorker said the allegation came to the attention of Democratic senators through a civil rights lawyer.

As I told the Committee during my hearing, a federal judge must be independent, not swayed by public or political pressure. Go ahead and ruin this guy's life based on an accusation - I don't know when it happened, I don't know where it happened and everybody named in regard to being there, said it didn't happen. One thing the Senate GOP's been adamant about with respect to the Ford hearing is limiting the number of witnesses invited to testify - just Ford and Kavanaugh, with no subpoena for the only person alleged to have witnessed the incident in that case, Mark Judge. "But what I know is I've never sexually assaulted anyone", Kavanaugh said in a television interview with his supportive wife by his side.

This commitment was made in the midst of a fiery speech in which the normally laconic Kentuckian echoed the outraged rhetoric of conservatives deploring the "shameful smear campaign" against Kavanaugh.

In a separate interview on MSNBC, White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah said, "We believe Judge Kavanaugh, clear, under penalty of perjury, called for a hearing last week".

"They have exploited these individuals and their families for their own political purposes", she said. He denies the allegation. She adds, "This is a country where you're innocent until proven guilty except when you're a conservative Republican".

Ford accused Kavanaugh of covering her mouth and trying to remove her clothing at a party in the early 1980s, when both were in high school.

"I'm not going to let false accusations drive us out of this process", he said, according to an excerpt of the interview to air in full Monday night.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also came out in Kavanaugh's defence.

There were no immediate indications that the emergence of a second accuser had fatally wounded Kavanaugh's prospects.

"I know there's pent up demand for women to get their day, women who have been sexually harassed and sexually assaulted, and I personally am very aggrieved for all of them", Conway said Monday during an appearance on "CBS This Morning".
