Susan Collins: 'I Do Not Believe' Kavanaugh Would Repeal Roe v. Wade

Flake and Collins were seen as wavering after Christine Blasey Ford went public with her allegation Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party in the 1980s. "This is a smear, plain and simple".

A second allegation of sexual misconduct has emerged against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, a development that has further imperiled his nomination to the Supreme Court, forced the White House and Senate Republicans onto the defensive and fueled calls from Democrats to postpone further action on his confirmation.

Singh estimated that there were about 400 students at the walkout, which was really exciting, she said, "because it takes a lot to get a Harvard Law Student to skip class".

Blumenthal later told reporters that Kavanaugh's accusers must be heard, and that "they have a right to tell their stories when and how they wish". Yale Law School says it will look into the claims, which it says it had not previously heard.

In July, Chua wrote a Wall Street Journal opinion piece titled "Kavanaugh is a Mentor to Women".

"Everything that is being said about the advice I give to students applying to Brett Kavanaugh - or any judge - is outrageous, 100% false, and the exact opposite of everything I have stood for and said for the last fifteen years", Chua said.

Dozens of students wearing black staged a sit-in at the law school Monday. "When I come forward people will say what do you need, how can I help you, ' not have that person be attacked".

As many as 20 Yale Law School faculty members canceled or rescheduled up to 31 classes for students to "protest both the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh, this school's implicit endorsement of him, and our administration's complicity in widespread sexual harassment in the legal profession", according to emails obtained by Campus Reform, a campus watchdog group. Students say they'll stage a sit-in from 9:30 to 3:00 pm.

Even if Kavanaugh didn't vote to overturn Roe, the Supreme Court could have many opportunities in the coming years to gut abortion access by allowing states to regulate it out of existence, as Texas tried to do with a pair of laws in 2013 that shut down half the abortion clinics in the state.

Dean Heather Gerken called him a "long-time friend" and a "mentor" to students.

Chua with husband and fellow Yale law professor Jed Rubenfeld. She said that the allegations were of "enormous concern" to her and the school.

Chua said in the statement that, contrary to allegations that she told students that it was "no accident" that Kavanaugh hired attractive clerks, she "always" told her students to prep "insanely hard" and that substance was "the most important thing". But she indicated that she couldn't comment on the complaint or an investigation that Yale is conducting on the matter.

Yale Law School students protest at the U.S. Capitol on Monday.

She is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, as is Kavanaugh, who said in a statement Monday he 'will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process'.
