Mom accidently makes red-faced son star of cringey ‘Him Too’ movement

Pieter Hanson, whose mother's "MY son" tweet went viral and prompted an onslaught of memes over the weekend, told the Washington Post he was disoriented and mortified when he found out that he'd become the poster boy of the #HimToo movement online.

'He graduated #1 in boot camp. "He won't go on solo dates even though he never gave up, let you down, run around, or deserted you, make you cry, say goodbye, tell a lie nor hurt you", the tweet stated referring to lyrics of Astley's hit song "Never Gonna Give You Up".

Hanson said the #HimToo politics in his mother's post surprised him, given that he and his brother had considered her progressive while growing up.

"It doesn't represent me at all", said Hanson, who is studying entrepreneurship with plans to open his own brewery. "I love my mom to death, but boy.I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this". Some, like Qasim Rashid, creator and host of Re Sight Islam podcast, wrote satirical posts.

The #HimToo hashtag is not brand new.

A mother has been ridiculed for posting a tweet in which she claimed her son did not go on solo dates over fears of "false sexual accusations".

The hashtag "identifies accused men as victims, using the same power-in-numbers technique that made #MeToo a force to recast the movement as a widespread feminist witch hunt, forcing men to walk on eggshells", Wired magazine reported.

"My brother is trending on twitter because of my moms ridiculous tweet". I'm a mixture of laughing hard and feeling bad for him. Hanson said he was too heated to speak with her directly about it Monday evening, instead asking his grandmother and younger brother to communicate his wishes that she remove the tweet.

"I've had limited reach, but now with this it's a good opportunity to support a cause I really believe in". "On Tuesday morning, he tweeted for the first time, cleverly using the handle "@Thatwasmymom".

'Let's turn this around. "Also Twitter, your meme game is on point", Hanson wrote. I respect and #BelieveWomen.

Hanson, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, told the Post he doesn't support the #HimToo movement and thinks of himself as an ally of those who have come forward in the #MeToo era.

Everything about that is amusing, from the weird conservative paranoia to the godawful hashtag to the picture itself, which looks more like someone starring in a musical about the navy and an actual U.S. Navy vet.
