Brett Kavanaugh: evidence dismissed

US President Donald Trump has had a series of wins but can it last

Moving beyond a rancorous confirmation battle that divided the country, Brett Kavanaugh got down to business as a US Supreme Court justice on Tuesday and took an active role in arguments alongside his eight new colleagues on his first day on the job.

In a letter posted Wednesday on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals website, Roberts announced that he has asked judges who handle ethics complaints for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals to deal with the claims.

He received the first three of 15 eventual complaints on September 20, a week before Kavanaugh's angry denial of a sexual assault allegation by Christine Blasey Ford.

Kavanaugh was confirmed by a razor-thin 50-48 majority in the U.S. Senate following accusations of sexual misconduct, including one of sexual assault as a high-schooler, that he emphatically denied. They only "seek investigations. of the public statements he has made as a nominee to the Supreme Court", Henderson said in a statement. The Senate never acted on Garland's Supreme Court nomination.

"Say it loud, and say it clear: Kavanaugh's not welcome here!" they chanted, dressed in long red robes and white hats in temperatures slated to reach 80 degrees.

This means that the complaints made against him are effectively confidential and can be dismissed without releasing the details of the complaints to the public. It not clear who filed the others. Roberts did not see an urgent need for them to be resolved by the judicial branch while he continued to review the incoming complaints, they said.

Henderson said members of the general public had filed the complaints.

Progressives fought hard against Kavanaugh's confirmation due to his originalist jurisprudence and because he would replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, often viewed as a "swing" vote in many 5-4 decisions.
