Tigers announcers lose jobs after alleged choking incident near broadcast booth

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Detroit Tigers are moving forward without the services of long-time TV broadcasters Mario Impemba and Rod Allen.

The pair had been together in Detroit's broadcast booth for 17 years. Detroit's Local 4 News reported at the time that Allen allegedly choked Impemba from behind following a dispute over a chair in the broadcast booth.

The alleged incident took place on September 4 after reported "simmering tension" between the two led to Allen following Impemba out of the broadcast booth and choking him. Allen's agent called those accusations "utter fabrications". Matt Shepard and Kirk Gibson called most of the following games in their absence.

Impemba had been the primary play-by-play voice for the Tigers since 2002, with Allen joining him the following season.

"We have not commented because Fox Sports Detroit is handling this professionally and thoroughly".

Neither has spoken publicly since the alleged incident.
