Christine Blasey Ford nominated for UNC 'Distinguished Alumna' award

Christine Blasey Ford testimony

UNC English professor Jennifer Ho says in a nomination letter that Blasey Ford should be honored with the award bestowed by the campus board of trustees because she set an example speaking out against sexual assault during last month's nationally televised congressional hearing. "Watching the White House ceremony last night and listening to the President again cast doubt on the veracity of Dr. Ford's claims, while not hearing a word of contrition from the newest justice, was hard for many Americans who have experienced sexual misconduct firsthand".

Ho said more than 1,000 people have signed the letter.

"We witnessed you show up for duty not as a superhero, but as a fully human woman".

Kavanaugh was sworn in Saturday evening after the Senate narrowly confirmed him, 50-48, with only one Democrat voting yes.

In the letter to the Office of Faculty Governance at UNC Chapel Hill, Professor Jessica Ho praises Ford for her "extreme act of bravery" of testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee about her claims.

Instead, you'll find a website that links to resources for sexual assault survivors. Her testimony prompted countless women to share their own stories of sexual harassment and assault. She answered questions directly and forthrightly; she showed no evidence of avoidance or defensiveness.

"She's gonna get book deals offered to her", he said. "Disaster", one reportedly texted, citing her credibility. And many of us were reminded about how a student who is struggling in school may be facing challenges that aren't just found on our course syllabi.

"I absolutely believe Dr. Ford's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee impacted individuals in the Northwestern community", Wake said. Especially for those of us who are survivors of sexual assault or who know others who are survivors (which means all of us), Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony was an extreme act of bravery, making her a more than worthy recipient to be recognized as a distinguished alumna.
