Mr. Rogers Crew Member Falls to His Death in Tragic Accident

A crew member on the set of Tom Hanks' upcoming Mr. Rogers movie died after suffering a heart attack and falling off a balcony.

The unidentified 65-year-old crew member was rushed to a Pittsburgh-area hospital, where his condition worsened, Mt. Lebanon police told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The man had gone to take a smoke break on the balcony of an apartment building in Mt. Lebanon, a suburb about eight miles outside Pittsburgh, between filming scenes for "You Are My Friend", local station WPXI-TV reported.

The Marielle Heller-directed film - now without a name but previously developed under the title You Are My Friend - was shooting a scene in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt. Lebanon, just south of the city.

Emswiller, who won an Emmy in 2015 for outstanding sound mixing for a limited series or movie for his work on Queen Latifah's "Bessie", has nearly 80 credits to his name.

Police say the crew was on a break and Emswiller was taking a break alone on the deck.

The first image from the film, which is set to hit theaters October 18, 2019, was released in September, showing Hanks dressed in Rogers' signature cardigan.

He also worked on major films including The Avengers and Jack Reacher. He may have suffered a medical emergency which caused the fall, though the cause of death is still to be determined by the medical examiner's office.

The film is inspired by a real-life friendship between Rogers and award-winning journalist Tom Junod (Rhys).

Rogers, who was the star of the much-loved long-running children's series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, died in 2003 at the age of 74.

The Hanks film is set to be released in October 2019 by TriStar Pictures.
