Xiaomi Mi Box S with 4K HDR support announced for Rs 4,450

Xiaomi Mi Box S with 4K HDR support announced for Rs 4,450

The Xiaomi Mi Box S has been listed on the Chinese company's website for a while now, but it wasn't until the Made By Google event that we got USA release confirmation for the streaming box.

The media streaming device streams in 4K and features Android TV 8.1 with Chromecast and Google Assistant functionality.

The remote is learning some new tricks and looks to emulate some of Roku's nifty controls, including a live TV button and a Netflix button for quickly jumping into your favorite video streaming apps.

The design of the box is not the only new thing.

It's Android 8.1 for now (Oreo) although we're informed it will be getting Pie'd (9.0) some time soon.

This ultra-affordable bad boy nearly has it all, including "premium" Dolby and DTS-powered audio, so you may want to hurry and get your pre-order in. With built-in Chromecast, you can also cast what is on your phone, tablet or PC screen to the TV. Interestingly, the remote control accompanying the Mi Box S is where most of the obvious design changes can be found. Along with the formal introduction, Xiaomi and Google confirmed the Mi Box S is coming to the USA, and is actually available to pre-order starting today ahead of its scheduled October 19 launch date. The Mi Box S can also be used as a gaming console, by downloading games from Google Play Store. The Mi Box S has 2GB DDR3 RAM for its Cortex-A53 Quad-core 64-bit CPU with Mali-450 GPU. Xiaomi Mi Box 4 added a mic button to the original, plus the directional ring was made into a clickwheel. However, Pixel devices weren't the only thing to launch today, as Xiaomi just launched the brand new Xiaomi Mi Box S. It will start shipping from November 4 in the US. As the Mi Box S has seen very few changes, Xiaomi has managed to also keep the price low.
