Turkish, Saudi officials enter consulate in Istanbul amid joint Khashoggi probe

A coming report from Saudi Arabia will admit that Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and Saudi citizen who disappeared while at the nation's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, earlier this month, died in an "interrogation gone wrong", a report said.

Saudi officials are expected to claim that the mission was initiated to interrogate Khashoggi, a frequent critic of the government, not to kill him.

Saudi Arabian students are deciding to stay pat studying overseas instead of returning home as businesses flee deals with the Kingdom over the disappearance of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, an official from the Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia tells Sputnik.

So far it still remains unclear how Trump would "punish" the kingdom economically over the journalist's disappearance, but major figures in the US Congress, such as Florida Senator Marco Rubio, have suggested halting arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

Turkish forensics and police officers arrive to the Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul on October 15, 2018, to search the premises in the investigation over missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi had visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul for an appointment related to his upcoming wedding.

Manchester United did not comment on Monday night about reports that Saudi Arabia is interested in buying the club.

"Together we must prove we will not be bullied or else, mark my words, once they have finished kicking the kingdom, we will be next in line", al-Habtoor said.

"Saudi Arabia is our ally, not just economically, which the president has correctly referred to, but it's also our No. 1 ally in the region of conflict that matters most to us - which is with the Islamic Republic of Iran", Lieberman said Monday to FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo on "Mornings with Maria".

The kingdom says the allegations are "baseless" but has offered no evidence Mr Khashoggi ever left the consulate.

Saudi Arabia dismissed threats of sanctions the following day and vowed the oil-rich kingdom would retaliate against such action.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman confirmed Australia's ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Austrade's general manager for the Middle East would attend. Turkey said Erdogan "stressed the forming of a joint working group to probe the case".

World markets turned tail again on Monday, as a bounceback in oil prices and rising tensions between Western powers and Saudi Arabia added to a cocktail of concerns that battered global stocks last week. A spokesman for JPMorgan confirmed chief executive Jamie Dimon will no longer attend, but declined to say why.

Ford Motor Co Chairman Bill Ford also pulled out, as well as media organizations like CNN and Bloomberg which once served as sponsors of the conference.
