Deontay Wilder apologises for punching mascot on live TV

Wilder, undefeated at 40-0 and nicknamed "The Bronze Bomber", was invited by the show hosts to kiddingly box the hot dog-like Nacion ESPN mascot in what was supposed to be a jokey moment.

Reports circulated that the recipient of the punch had suffered a broken jaw, while Wilder denied he was unaware there was anyone in the costume.

Now Wilder has taken to social media to give his side of the story.

"I sincerely apologise to the fearless man that was injured (if this is true) I have the up most (sic) respect for him, his participation, willingness and courage".

"If this is true, I personally would like to invite him to my December 1 fight". Word Is Bond -CHAMP #BombZquad #PeoplesChamp'.

"I can't wait til December the first". When I knock your body on the canvas, which foot do you want me to step over you with?

Wilder and Fury are set to go head-to-head in Los Angeles with the American's WBC heavyweight crown on the line.

'Deontay Wilder doesn't possess anything I'm scared of.

However, Wilder claimed he did not know a person was wearing the costume - although he has now dismissed those suggestions and apologised for the incident. 'I couldn't ask for anything better or any more preparation than we already have.
