Astros Surveilled Opposing Dugouts During Road Games

Picard's initial report even indicates that McLaughlin wasn't removed from the stadium - only the media area in which he'd been set up.

The Red Sox had been warned before their series-opening game to look out for the man, the AP was told by the people.

In the third inning, security confronted the man, who did not have a credential for that area.

Major League Baseball acknowledged Tuesday night that it had investigated an incident Sunday, in which an Astros employee in the media camera well adjacent to the Red Sox dugout in ALCS Game 2 at Fenway Park reportedly was aiming a camera into the home dugout, The Washington Post reported. Whether he'll start Game 5 of the AL Championship Series remains to be seen.

"We are aware of the matter, and it will be handled internally", Major League Baseball communications officer Pat Courtney said Tuesday night, after the Red Sox's 8-2 victory in Houston gave the Red Sox a 2-1 series lead. The incident isn't expected to amount to anything more than a fine for Houston, according to a report from ESPN.

According to Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com, an employee of the Astros, holding a cellphone camera, was removed twice by security from the photographer's pit next to the Indians' dugout during Game 3 on October 8.

The Indians entered the series concerned the Astros, who have been suspected of cheating in the past, had stolen some signs or had other useful information about them, one person said.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch also was asked about the situation.

"I'm always concerned about [sign-stealing] throughout the season", Cora said after the game. Passan adds that some clubs are "wary" that Houston may utilize its Edgertronic ballpark cameras, which can record 2,000 frames per second, in sign-stealing schemes. "So I mean we do a good job changing sequences". And we don't get caught up in the whole paranoia thing [with] the signs. "If we feel there's something going on, we switch signs".

Cora said he didn't think there was anything going on during the first two games of the series at Fenway. But did the Astros cheat?

Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer went on Twitter earlier this season and intimated that Houston's pitchers were possibly using pine tar to improve the rate of spin on pitches.

The Indians were swept by the Astros, who after winning twice at home, rolled to an 11-3 win in Game 3.

Following the game, center fielder Jason Kipnis was critical of his team's performance and said he felt the Indians were overmatched.
