Trains from South Wales to London affected by disruption

Paddington has been closed this morning after damage to the electric wires

Passengers are warned that there will be no travel by train to or from London Paddington until at least noon.

It said some lines into Paddington may open after noon and all were expected to be open by the evening, based on Network Rail's estimates on how quickly they could complete the repairs.

But a limited service is now being run between Paddington station from Kemble, Stroud and Stonehouse.

Great Western Railway (GWR) added that a reduced timetable would impact most mainline routes to and from Paddington.

Good Morning, ^HV here to assist with your journey today.

As passengers look to find alternative routes, South Western Railway told its customers their trains in and out of London would be "very busy" as a result of more people using their services. Services will depart every 30 minutes.

In the early hours, National Rail said a near-normal service had resumed, with some alterations on commuter services in the Thames Valley area, including trains serving Maidenhead and Twyford.

"The position this morning is that all lines remain closed between London Paddington and Slough with the possibility that two of these four lines will be available during the afternoon".

A Hitachi spokesman explained the company was holding "a full and thorough investigation" to identify the cause of the damage.

GWR is investing £500 million in a fleet of 36 Class 802s from Hitachi - part of an overall order of 93 from the Class 800 Series which are replacing the operator's high-speed rolling stock by the end of next year.
